Would you like to say some words about yourself, Paqui?
I graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Murcia (UMU), Spain, in 1991, and specialized in Hematology. After completing my Doctoral Thesis at UMU and receiving the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize in 2000, I dedicated my career to healthcare as a hematologist. In 2011, I began my research journey following a two-year postdoc at the Children’s Hospital of Boston (Harvard Medical School, Sola-Visner's Lab).
Upon returning to Spain, I launched a research line focused on megakaryo-thrombopoiesis and developmental hemostasis, securing funding from the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII). My clinical work with patients diagnosed with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) eventually steered my research to this field, where I have led successful projects with public and private funding, including industry collaborations and international clinical trials.
In academia, I am an Associate Professor at UCAM (San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia) and a collaborating professor at UMU, supervising multiple theses and research projects. I am also a member of the Clinical-Experimental Hematology-Oncology Group at the IMIB Institute; member of CIBERER- CB15/00055 and lead the Myeloid Neoplasms and Hemostasis Research Group at UCAM.
Our research focuses on identifying factors that drive the onset and progression of myeloid neoplasms, integrating clinical, molecular, and biological approaches to strengthen translational research in this area.
What is the purpose of your research stay with us at CRESCO?
During my stay at CRESCO in Lorena Arranz’s Lab, I aim at contributing to exploring genetic, epigenetic, and epitranscriptomic mechanisms predisposing to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Over the next six months, I plan to enhance my expertise by employing advanced techniques, including novel genetic tools, stem cell and single cells studies, omics technologies, and advanced imaging methodologies.
This experience at CRESCO is a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth. It allows me to collaborate with leading researchers and immerse myself in a multidisciplinary environment that fosters innovation. I deeply appreciate the warm welcome and support provided by the MYC department, which is making this journey even more inspiring.
We are happy to have you with us and look forward to strengthening our ongoing collaborations! Welcome!
